Q: My child has special needs, how can a dog help?
A: Dogs are a natural fit with children, especially those with special needs. They offer companionship, support and unconditional positive regard which contribute to the development of self-confidence, self-soothing, coordination, verbal and motor skills.
Q: What’s the difference between one of your Autism Assistance Canines and a family pet you train through your EveryDay Dog Program?
A:Our Autism Assistance Canines have been specifically selected, raised, trained and certified for public access; they live life side-by-side with their child at home, school and on the road. EveryDay Dogs are pet dogs that, through our guided program, are trained by the family to assist, participate and motivate their children in skill development and therapies.
Q: Is my dog right for the EveryDay Dog Program?
A: Everyday Dogs can be well-mannered dogs of any breed, age and size. They must be active, healthy, as indicated by a licensed Veterinarian, and social.
Q: Is my child a good fit for the EveryDay Dog Program?
A: If your child is comfortable with your dog EveryDay Dog can work for them.
Q: I’m thinking about getting a dog for my child who has special needs. Can you help?
A: Our training partner, Pup Match, provides a service tailored to address this specific challenge: they match individuals and families with the best dog for them. They will identify the best breed(s) for you; find the breeders, evaluate litters, select puppies and get you off on the right foot with puppy training.
Q: What is the difference between EveryDay Dog group classes and individual classes?
A: Both formats contain the same tools and guidance on how to train your dog to help your child with special needs. The private classes will provide more opportunities to customize in the later stages of training, to meet the unique needs of your child.
Q: What resources exist for families looking for an assistance canine in other parts of Canada?
A: Please see our list of helpful resources for more information about programs in your area.
Q: Do you service people outside the province of Quebec?
A: Our current focus is within Quebec, however, we do have future plans to expand our Everyday Dog program to professionals and families in other provinces.
